Racking inspections are carried out in accordance with SEMA guidelines.

The racking inspection is visual and carried out at ground floor level.

A risk analysis is completed prior to the inspection. This ensures a successful examination of the racking can take place in safe manner and to ensure all pallet racking locations are accessible.

The inspector may ask to see copies of internal daily or weekly documentation of checks carried out by the PRRS (person responsible for racking safety). This allows inspectors to ascertain suitable rack safety procedures are being maintained. Should the correct procedures not be in place, the inspector will advise as to the correct course of action and recommendations going forward.

A full detailed report will be emailed off site following the inspection. Should any serious damage, potential hazards or even a structural / loading issue be identified, the inspector will notify the PRRS immediately.The inspector will then issue a ‘Red risk notification sheet’ during or immediately following the racking inspection.

Other ‘Amber, Green or less serious observations’ will be included within the full report.

History / supplier / installation
Damage location sheet / drawing
Recommendations / damage prevention
Photos of typical findings
Damage criteria / awareness

Inspection damage categories

Classification of damage categories are as follows …


Very high level of risk, damage more than twice the SEMA limit.
Immediate off load and isolation required.


A lower level of risk, not requiring immediate off load however is greater than the SEMA limit.
Location to be off loaded within a 4 week period. No additional load to be placed following removal until remedial works have been completed.
If the location is not repaired within the 4 week period, the Amber risk location is automatically upgraded to Red risk.


A location with damage present however falls below / within SEMA guidelines.
Damage is recorded and continuously monitored for future inspections.


The inspector may also include this category for an observation of no great risk / damage, for example a component that has not been installed to the manufacturers specification / guidelines.
